Cats Eye Eyeliner Tutorial
Cats eye eyeliner is one of those trends in makeup that can pretty much be classified as a classic. When done correctly, it opens up your eye and accents it perfectly. It also adds a touch of glamour to any look. If you do neutral eyeshadow and a cats eye, then wear it with a beautiful red lipstick, you’ve got yourself a gorgeous pin up look.
Now I know that eyeliner can be a challenge to some people (and to be honest, I still do have my problems with it sometimes), so to give you an idea of how you can do this look, I’m writing this cats eye eyeliner tutorial.
Basically, you will need:
- An eyeliner of your choice (Please choose between liquid, gel or cake eyeliner. If you choose to use a pencil eyeliner, make sure it’s sharpened or at least use it with a brush so you can control the product better and be able to make sharp lines and corners with it.)
- Eyeliner brush if needed
For my tutorial, I used theĀ Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (in black). I used the eyeliner brush that came with it.
Cats Eye Eyeliner Tutorial
We will start by lining the eye like normal–do it like you normally do. I personally like to do it from the inside corner of my eye and slowly dragging it out to the outer corner in short lines. If you want an easier time, you can start from the middle of your eyelid and draw broken lines as close to the lash line as possible, connecting the lines carefully.

Once you’ve lined your eye, you can continue with part two, where we start with drawing the cats eye!

Draw a line on the corner of your eye, going upwards. Angle it up high, and draw it as high as you want your cats eye to be. I want mine to be a bit subtle, so I only did that little flick at the end–but I drew it at a 45 degree angle. You want the end of your eyeliner to be slanted a bit so it will look like a cats eye.

From the outer 3rd of your eye, draw a line to connect to the first line you drew. It will create a kind of triangle. Adjust the line until you get the right connection from the eyeliner to the corner, where it will look natural. Fill in this triangle afterwards and you will have this:

When the eye is closed:

You can also experiment with the thickness of your line, and how big you want the ‘cats eye’ to be. You can go crazy if you like–the bigger your eyeliner is, the more fashion-y and avant garde it is!

I went a little crazy on that one, but I love the result!
So that’s about it–doing cats eye eyeliner is pretty easy to be honest. Give it a try and let me know ow your experience was!

Your tutorial is super!! Thank you!
I like to follow the line from my lower lid to create my wings, I know you can probably use the end of your eyebrow as a point of reference but I haven’t gotten that down yet.
