How to Create a Teal Smokey Eye

How to create a teal blue smokey eye look

A dark smoldering smoky eye is a classic and sexy look perfect all year around. For a date night or out to a formal event. We all love seeing celebrities sparkle on the red carpet with a smoky eye, so why not amp up the classic smoky eye by pairing it with a pop of color?

Using shades of deep carbon black around the eyes will help to accentuate your eye shape. Today we will be doing a smoky eye with a bit of a twist. Instead of highlighting the inner corner of the eye, we will be applying the lightest shade on the center of the lid. This look is perfect for those who have larger eyes and don’t want a cat eye shape to their look.

To get the look you can experiment with rich jewel tones such as purple and emerald green, for this look we will be using shades of teal. For the most alluring look, use shades of metallic such as gold and silver. By adding a bright shimmery pop of color to the lid and lower lash line we can help define and contour the shape of our eyes. For small and deep set eyes, the brighter shades on the lower lash line will give your eye shape a wide eye effect.

Achieving a rich black smoky eye is a look that needs a tad bit of precision, otherwise it can look messy. Blending is another technique that is HIGHLY recommended for this look. I recommend practicing this look to get the hang of blending out colors.

For the cheeks and lips, shades of soft pink can pull the look together for a sophisticated yet flirty look!

So let’s get started shall we?

Lets start out with a clean eye, you can skip out on applying makeup to your face because we will end up with a lot of eyeshadow fallout. Begin by applying a base on the center of our lid with NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Milk. Using a white base for your eyeshadow will help to achieve the brightest pigmentation of color on our lids. Avoid the inner and outer corner of your eye since we are going to be applying a black base there.

Next, smooth out the base with a flat eyeshadow brush. Using a brush will blend out the base more evenly. Make sure to keep the white base only on the center of the lid.

This is what you should have: The base should be blended out smoothly up and above the crease of your eye.

Let’s start applying some color now! Taking a vibrant teal blue, apply this on top of the white eyeshadow base. You can use the same flat shader brush. Generously pack on the color for a richer pigmentation, try not to sweep the color on but instead press the brush on to your eye lid.

This is what you should have. If you have deep set  or hooded eyes you can take the color above your crease so that the color will be visible.

Now let’s smoke out this eye look! Take a creamy Jet Black eyeliner by Rimmel London and work this on the inner and outer corner of your eye. Make sure to overlap the teal shadow since we don’t want any gaps between the two color

TIP: If your eyeliner is stiff to work with, warm it up by rubbing it on the back of your hand before applying.

Using a pointed blending brush, buff out the eyeliner and blending it into the teal blue. This will create a base for the matte black shadow. Remember to take your time with blending, the trick is to smudge your brush back and forth, you can go back and apply the teal eyeshadow if you blended out the black too much.

Using a matte black eyeshadow, apply this on top of the black base that we created. A blending brush will effortlessly blend out the colors and into the teal. Since we already blended out the base this part will be simple.

Now to kick upthe blue a notch, I used a mineral eyeshadow in a bright teal shade. With a shimmery shadow this will give your eyes a pop! Apply the loose shadow with a flat shader brush and simply tap on the color and blend it out by moving the brush left to right.

This is what you should have:

Good thing we didn’t apply any foundation or concealer! Look at that fall out.

Now let’s blend out the harsh edges. Using a Matte Vanilla Eyeshadow on a tapered blending brush, blend out the edges concentrating most of the shadow under your browbone

This is what you should have. Now we can clean up all of the fallout and apply concealer.

Now on the lower lash line, I applied the same bright teal mineral eyeshadow. On the outer corner I applied a Deep Purple Eyeshadow just to pull the look together.

Amp up your lashes with some falsies! I prefer wearing false lashes instead of wearing coats and coats of mascara. You can also line your upper and lower lashline with the Jet Black Eyeliner from Rimmel for an even richer and intense look.

….and VOILA! We are done with our masterpiece!

Now for the rest of the face, a soft pink cream blush will add a subtle pop of color. Wearing shades of pink on the rest of the face will bring a subtle contrast with the teal and black eyeshadows. NYX’s Rouge Cream Blush in Boho Chic is a muted pink with slight shimmers. Cream blushes are very wearable and last all day!
