I have to admit that I am usually too lazy/cheap to buy makeup primers. When I’m in Sephora, I usually gravitate to the highly-pigmented eyeshadow colors instead of the relatively boring concealers and primers. However, I make an effort to buy a good primer at least once a year. While it is not necessary, at least for me, to use a makeup primer everyday, I use it on special occasions when I know that my makeup is going to have to last through a long day. My favorite makeup primer is, by far, Lorac aquaPRIME.
Pros of Lorac aquaPRIME
I really love this product! Because I have really sensitive skin, it can be hard to find cosmetics that don’t irritate my skin. Lorac aquaPRIME is silicone free, paraben free, and fragrance free, which is a huge plus for me! Also, it is oil-free, so you don’t get that greasy feeling that many primers leave. Although this product is really moisturizing, it goes on completely smooth. After applying it, you can’t even tell that it’s on, other than the fact that your skin is smoother. Also, for some reason, it feels slightly cold when you apply it, which is perfectly refreshing when you are trying to wake up in the mornings. When I use Lorac aquaPRIME, not only does my makeup last longer, but it also goes on smoother, so I don’t need as much product.
Cons of Lorac aquaPRIME
One of the major drawbacks of Lorac aquaPRIME is the high price tag. $32 dollars for 1.35 fl oz seems like a lot! However, you don’t need to use a lot of this product each application, so the bottle lasts longer than you would think. Also, while the pump dispenser system was really convenient at first, it makes it really hard to get the last drops of the product out of the container.
Generally, I apply Lorac aquaPRIME under my regular makeup for special occasions. Because it is so expensive, I try to only use it when I really need it, like when I’m going dancing or going to be out in the sun a lot. You can see in the picture below that there is only a small bead of the product on my finger. That’s all I need to use! I just rub it between my fingers really quickly and apply to my entire face and neck area.
Another use I have found for this product is as a makeup diluter. I mix it with my more opague foundations to create a ‘tinted moisturizer’ that lasts way longer than any normal foundation. Because Lorac aquaPRIME is so sheer, it can be mixed with anything without compromising the color of the product.
Overall, Lorac aquaPRIME is a great product! It will definitely make your makeup last longer than ever before, if you are willing to pay the high price tag. The first time I tried this product, it came as a Sephora sample. After that, I was hooked and had to purchase the real thing.
