Maybelline Magnum Volum’ Express Super Film Mascara Review
I don’t really care much for mascaras because my eyelashes are so short and sparse; it barely makes a difference! Another reason why I don’t really invest oodles of money in mascaras is the short shelf life.
How long have you been using your mascaras?
Consumers are advised to replace mascaras every 3 months. Because of the proximity to the eyes, it’s crucial that anything you put near it is fresh and bacteria-free. The mascara wand is a haven for all sorts of nasty, which is why 3 months of use is a safe choice.
I don’t know about other make-up fanatics, but I choose not to take chances when it comes to my eye area. I’m a firm believer in not being blinded by labels when it comes to quality, and Maybelline has served me well over the years without burning a hole through my pocket. I’m just not willing to spend $50 for a product that I’m only going to use about a dozen times per month.
It’s advertised as being able to provide “impactful volume, that’s smudge-proof, sweat-proof, and tear-resistant but washes off easily when it’s time to go to sleep”. Let’s dissect that.
It made a significant difference on my lashes, though that’s not really saying much since I barely have any. Heh.
This I can attest to. I always rub my eyes, always fall asleep in the car, and so far, I haven’t experienced any fallout or smudging.
Yes and yes. It’s water-resistant enough to withstand some tears and/or sweat.
Washes off easily?
Eh, not so much. I would have wanted for the mascara to come off when I wash my face with cleanser, but that didn’t really happen for me. I still had to use make-up remover to take it off completely.
Packaging and Wand
I quite like the bright yellow packaging of the Magnum Volum’ Express from Maybelline. It’s a standout among my other mascaras, and it caught my eye at the make-up counter. One thing I’m not a fan of, is the mascara wand. It’s not the worst out there, but I don’t see why they couldn’t incorporate a thinner brush. I find it too bulky and the curved part just isn’t effective when it comes to reaching into the corners for those smaller lashes. You’ll see in the photo below how there are a few dots of mascara on my lid. Call me sloppy, but I manage with smaller wands just fine.
The Magnum Volum’ Express Super Film Mascara is said to “possess an incredible volumizing power together with the magical vanishing power of film mascara. The film technology wraps lashes with mascara fiber in a tube-like manner to give fuller lashes and the fiber can be removed as a whole easily.” Film mascaras are more convenient that way, and I’ll definitely be looking for similar products in the future. The smell reminds be a little of a Pilot permanent marker. Not that big a deal to me, but could be annoying to some. I agree that it’s volumizing and smudge-proof.
It holds the curl for a good 3-4 hours for me. Beyond that, I have to curl them again for an extra lift. I find the formula a teensy bit too thick, though it’s to be expected since it’s a volumizing mascara.
The Magnum Volum’ Express Super Film Mascara is one of my favorites from Maybelline. I like it better than the waterproof version from the same line. It’s not perfect, but I think its pros outweigh its cons. I would purchase again.
