Nyx Eye/Eyebrow Pencil Review

eneral Make-up Rule: Your brow color should be 3 times lighter than your natural hair color.

Well, I actually have black so that makes it, maybe, dark brown. That was alright for me about 2 years ago but at the beginning of this year I decided to be a little more adventurous (just in my opinion). I decided to dye my hair a marshmallow brown color (a hair dye by Prettia). Before actually going through with it, I had the general make-up rule about eyebrows in mind. I wondered how I would lighten my brows so I searched for something pigmented enough to cover-up the “blackness”. Saw the Nyx Eye/Eyebrow Pencil; took a risk; purchased it.

Pricing

I’m the kind of girl that likes a good bargain so, like most of my cosmetic gear, I bought the Nyx Eye/Eyebrow Pencil online (eBay). It was about $3 and thought that it was a good price even if it ended up being a dud. At 0.04 oz, I think it’s an alright deal.

Color Swatch, Consistency

Swatch - Nyx Eye/ Eyebrow Pencil

With other brow liners, they change color a bit when I line them on my brows. They become a bit reddish or orange-y which I don’t like. I was expecting the same with this product but it actually delivered! What you see is what you get. The color that the pencil is marked with is really what comes out when I swatched it and definitely no color changes even when I applied it on my eyelids and filled my brows with it.

I was happy to see that the consistency was creamy. It’s definitely hydrating and smooth (like the product promised!). On my brows, it was easy to blend and it did not smudge when I lined it on my eyelids.

On brows

My brow's natural color

My brows don’t really exude perfection. That’s their natural shape and they are thick — well, a little bit. So, this is the before picture.

Brows with Nyx Eye/ Eyebrow Liner

This is after applying the Nyx Eye/ Eyebrow Pencil. It’s not exactly how I wanted them to be but they look neater and the most important thing is they look light enough for me to venture out into my marshmallow brown hair color.

On Lids

The pencil definitely works better on brows. I wasn’t really satisfied with applying it on my lids. It could have been because I was used to more crisper liners like gel liners or liquid liners. Because of the creamy consistency, it glided on smoothly but the result of the line wasn’t as neat as I wanted it to be.

My Verdict

Pros:

– Creamy consistency (Hydrating)

– Blends easily

– Pigmented enough

– Stay on all day

Cons:

– Doesn’t work very well as an eyeliner

I would have to say that this liner is a keeper IF you’re going to use it on your brows alone. In the end, that was my ultimate goal (to lighten my brows) and so the product definitely worked for me.
