Ah, I would love to sing this product all the praises in the world, but sadly like any other product it still has its flaws. But honestly, I still love this lipstick!
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in true red doesn’t disappoint when it comes to color payoff. It really does look like a vibrant red. When I wear it, I feel like I’m channeling some Hollywood stars (and hopefully doing them even just a teeny bit of justice!). The color payoff is great in that it’s buildable, which means you can go from a light reddish tint to a full blown red pout, depending on your preference. However, due to its creaminess, it can be a bit hard to apply consistently (it can appear a bit blotchy), which for me is a minor flaw. I do like though that despite its creaminess, it doesn’t quite feather or settle into fine lines easily.
What I love about it is that it is so creamy and moisturizing that I really don’t have to worry about frequently applying lip balm. When this lipstick is on my lips it’s light and I hardly feel it–in fact it feels like I’m just wearing a lip balm. I find that this is much easier and way more convenient than having to wipe off my lipstick, exfoliate my lips, apply lipbalm and top with lipstick over and over–lather, rinse and repeat.
This lippie is also so creamy and glossy that it totally eliminates the need for me to top off my lips with even more lip gloss. It really feels so natural on my lips, and I love that!
Another thing I like is that for a drugstore product that you can get for $9, you’re getting a quality product that not only works like a high end product, but also looks like one. The packaging on this lipstick has attracted me from the start and it really looks luxe and expensive. It makes me feel like I bought something way more expensive than it really is!
For me, this lipstick is pretty near perfect. Except for a few downsides…
One downside to this lipstick’s to-die-for creaminess is the not-so-good staying power. Because it’s so creamy and glossy, it wipes off really easily. If you accidentally bump or smudge your lips with something, you can bet that red is gonna be all over your face! Also, it can’t quite survive a meal. As it fades though it leaves behind a reddish tint that I’m quite fond of, because it gets me through the moments that I need until my next retouch! If you really want to increase the staying power of your lipstick, blot a bit with some tissue and reapply your lipstick layer after layer until you get your desired opaqueness.
And of course, another downside, the blotchy application. It can be difficult to get it all even, but with a little patience, it is possible!
Well, that’s it for my review! Don’t forget, if you want your application to be easier, use this lipstick on top of a red lip liner. You could also apply it with a lip brush for precise control!
